This AA-grade coffee from southern Tanzania offers a beautifully layered cup—notes of apricot and citrus brighten the profile, while dark chocolate, brown sugar, and black tea add richness and depth. A medium roast highlights the coffee’s natural balance, with gentle acidity and a silky, tea-like body.
Sourced from smallholders in the Mbozi region, this lot comes to us through the Hezya AMCOS and the Usawa Kahawa Project—usawa meaning balance, and kahawa meaning coffee in Swahili. Launched in 2021, the project champions gender equity in Tanzanian coffee production, supporting women farmers through training, leadership, and expanded access to markets.
Coffee is grown at altitudes of 1,590–1,670 masl on farms smaller than one hectare. After harvesting, cherries are sorted, pulped, and washed at centralized processing units, then sun-dried on raised beds to ensure clarity and structure in the final cup.
With its refined sweetness, soft fruit character, and powerful mission, this coffee is a standout—not just for what’s in the cup, but for the story behind it.
